Before they reached the market, Thermablade performance-enhancing skate blades were in development for more than 5 years. Literally millions of dollars were invested in prototypes and testing in the process of turning the Thermablade concept into reality.
- 2001
- Inventor Tory Weber creates the Thermablade concept.
- 2002
- Tory builds the first crude prototype using an external heating element.
- 2003
- Sled testing proves a 65-75% reduction in starting resistance and a 50-55% reduction in gliding resistance.
- Scientific studies establish the physiological advantages of Thermablade over cold blades.
- 2004
- The first patent is granted.
- Dr. Alain Haché writes a paper describing how and why Thermablade works.
- Wayne Gretzky skates on prototype Thermabladeskate blades for the first time.
- 2006
- Hired Quebec-based Precicad to design the production version of Thermablade.
- Signed manufacturing agreement with IPL to produce Thermablade products in Canada.
- 2007
- Two months of on-ice testing by 150 players across Canada confirms robust blade and holder design.
- Additional research confirms increased performance and physiological benefits to users.
- Introduced Thermablade performance-enhancing skate blades to North American market Oct. 16.
